The number on the box is the maker's seating rating, not a promise that six adults will stretch out. Brands work it out from the space round the inside wall, so a hot tub sold as "4-6 person" suits four adults with legroom, or six who don't mind knees touching in the middle. Rigid six-seaters from showroom brands are usually 200-230cm across with moulded seats. An inflatable is often a little smaller outside and noticeably smaller inside, because the wall is thick.
The Arebos Whirlpool Tenerife shows how much the wall takes: 185cm square outside, 145cm square inside. Spread round that inside edge, six people get just under a metre of backrest each, which is comfortable. The Wave Tahoe is 156cm across with a six-inch foam wall, which leaves roughly 125cm of water in the middle. That makes it a roomy four or a tight six. Seat counts are the most that fit, so if six adults will use it every weekend, buy the biggest inside space your patio allows.
These figures come straight from the specifications of the six-seaters in our range. Outside size is what your patio has to fit; litres tell you how long it takes to heat and how much it weighs full. Where a listing gives no water capacity we have left it blank rather than guess.

The table runs roughly from cheapest to dearest. The 208cm Nordivale is the biggest circle here and was under £300 when we checked, which puts it in our hot tubs under £300 too. The Tenerife and New York sit in our hot tubs under £500, while the Oslo and Tribeca cost several times as much for a rigid frame.
If you searched for a 6 person lazy spa, you mean Lay-Z-Spa, Bestway's inflatable range and the best-known name in UK gardens. Five of the tubs on this page come from Bestway: three Lay-Z-Spa models plus the Bestway-branded Cabo and the Coleman Palm Springs, which Bestway also makes. They share the AirJet system, a ring of 140 air holes round the floor that bubbles everyone at once, wherever they sit.
The Palm Springs AirJet 6 is the cheapest 6 person Lay-Z-Spa here and sits in our inflatable hot tubs under £400. It is 196cm round, seats four to six, and its pump heats, filters and runs the massage at the same time, so the water doesn't cool while the bubbles are on.
The New York is the same 196cm size but rated for a full six. It adds an EnergySense insulated lid, which Lay-Z-Spa says makes it 40% more efficient, plus a power-saving timer and Freeze Shield, which switches the heater on before the pipes can freeze. That makes it the one to pick if you want to keep it running through a British winter.
The Carrara swaps the air wall for ThermaCore foam panels slotted into a TriTech liner, quoted as 60% more efficient. It has a built-in UltraFit pump, Wi-Fi app control and a foot massager in the middle. At 170cm across it is the most compact of the Bestway six-seaters, so four adults is the realistic comfortable number.

The Cabo is the only six-seater here with HydroJets: four water nozzles for a targeted back massage on top of 140 AirJets, plus four headrests and SmartSpa app control. It is square, 180cm, and holds 795 litres. The Coleman Palm Springs is a 195.6cm round tub with two covers (an EnergySense one and a standard one), app control and a ChemConnect dispenser that releases chlorine slowly.
The Aegean is Wave's octagonal six-seater: 195cm across, 910 litres and 130 bubble jets. The wall is drop-stitch with a PU foam core, so it stands flatter and firmer than a plain air ring, and the bundle includes a thermal cover and foam mat that Wave rates as 60% better than a standard inflatable. Two filters, each rated for 150 hours, cope well with a full tub.
The Tahoe has the thickest wall in our range, a six-inch foam core that Wave says holds heat 60% better than standard PVC. Its 90 AquaJets are fewer than the others, but it is quiet, app controlled and the smallest footprint of the 4-6 person tubs at 156cm.
The MSpa Tuscany holds the most water of any 6 person blow up hot tub here, 1,100 litres in a 193cm octagon, with a 2,200W heater, three massage power levels, a UVC sanitiser and a child lock. The Tribeca and the two Oslo tubs are not inflatable at all. They are rigid plug-and-play spas, an acrylic shell or an ABS frame, delivered by two people (the Tribeca sets up in 40-60 minutes), for buyers who want a solid tub without a fitted spa's groundwork. The Oslo and Tuscany also appear in our wood effect hot tubs.
The Tenerife is the budget square option: 910 litres, 130 jets, an 1,800W heater, automatic inflation and LED lights with six colour modes. The Nordivale is the cheapest six-seater we list, 208cm round with a 1,800W heater and 130 jets, and it comes with a cover, ground sheet and four filter cartridges. It is a newer listing with fewer reviews than the big brands.

Every 6 person hot tub in our grid suits a different buyer. Our pick for each need:
With six people leaning back at once, the wall of a 6 person hot tub matters more than it does on a smaller one. There are four types in our 6 person range:
Wave puts numbers on the difference: its foam tubs use around 8kWh a day, and it reckons an inflatable uses about double. If six of you will use it most weekends through the year, the extra cost of a foam or rigid tub comes back slowly through the meter.
Measure the outside size of the 6 person hot tub you like and add room to climb in, reach the controls and fold back the lid. Wave suggests 100cm of clearance on every side. The shapes take different floor areas: a 160cm square uses about 2.6m², a 196cm circle about 3m², and a 185cm square about 3.4m². A circle sits best in an open patio, a square tucks into a corner, and an octagon falls in between. For circles in every size, see our round hot tubs.
Weight is the bigger issue at this size. Every litre of water weighs a kilogram, so the Tuscany weighs 1,175kg full before anyone gets in. Add six adults and you are near 1.6 tonnes on about 3m², more than half a tonne per square metre. Put it on a flat, level, solid base such as paving or a concrete pad. Get most decking and every balcony checked by a builder first, and don't use a lawn, which sinks unevenly.
Filling takes two to three hours from a garden hose. Site the hot tub near an outdoor socket and the back door, and away from trees that drop leaves.
More water means more to heat. The heaters on these six-seaters raise the temperature by about 1-2°C an hour: 1-2°C for the Nordivale and 1.2-1.8°C for the MSpa Tuscany, and the New York's listing allows 12-24 hours. Filling with tap water at around 10°C and heating to 38°C is a rise of 28°C, so start the evening before.
Warming 1,000 litres by that much takes about 33kWh of electricity before any heat loss. A 2,200W heater like the Tuscany's uses 2.2kWh for every hour it runs. Multiply those figures by your unit rate; Ofgem's energy price cap page shows the current typical rate. To keep a big tub cheap to run:
Each bather adds sweat, skin oils and sun cream, so a full six-seater needs more sanitiser and more filter cleaning than a couple's spa. Shower first. Most UK guidance aims for 3-5 parts per million of free chlorine and a pH of 7.2-7.6. Test before every session when the hot tub is busy, rinse the filter every few days and replace it as the maker advises. The Tuscany and Tribeca help with a UVC sanitiser, and the Cabo and Coleman with a ChemConnect dispenser. If you let the hot tub to paying guests, the HSE guidance on spa pools sets out your legionella duties.
RoSPA suggests 15-minute sessions, no under-fives, alcohol saved for afterwards and a lockable cover. Wave advises no children under eight at all, and 37°C for older children. Plug straight into an outdoor socket protected by an RCD, as Electrical Safety First advises for all outdoor electrics, and don't use an extension lead.
The inflatable and portable six-seaters in our range are 156-208cm across the outside and 65-73cm high. Rigid showroom spas for six are usually bigger, around 200-230cm.
Those that list it hold 795-1,100 litres: 795 for the Bestway Cabo, 910 for the Wave Aegean and Arebos Tenerife, and 1,100 for the MSpa Tuscany.
Yes, if they are happy to sit close. The 196cm Lay-Z-Spa New York and Palm Springs AirJet 6 fit six; for four adults to stretch out, those same tubs are roomy.
Usually for short sessions. "4-6" means four in comfort and six at a squeeze. If six adults will use it often, choose a tub rated for a full six, like the Wave Aegean, or the biggest footprint, like the 208cm Nordivale.
From a fresh fill, roughly 12-24 hours at 1-2°C an hour. Keep the lid on while it heats.
No. All of these run from a standard 13A outdoor socket, which should be RCD-protected. Don't use an extension lead.
Often, yes. Four people get more legroom, and you have space when friends come round. It does hold more water than a smaller tub, so it takes longer to heat and costs more to keep warm. If most nights it is just the two of you, compare our hot tubs for two first.
